21 January 2020
Promoter AIFUP - Walé Description The Walé Medical Centre has been in operation since 2004 and, since 2010, has been engaged in a plan to improve the health of the population with a priority objective: to combat the progression of AIDS/HIV. Since 2013 Walé has been responsible for the AIDS project in collaboration with the Yamoussoukro Health District. Activities The project represents the second year of the initiative launched in 2019. The aim is to offer health education to low-income mothers to help reduce the transmission rate of babies born to HIV-positive women. The action aims to provide infected mothers with adequate training on the risks and recommended procedures for feeding their children and a nutritional support programme for infants that can reduce the risks of vertical mother-to-child transmission of HIV-1. Preventive measures will improve disease-free survival of breastfed children and counter malnutrition and serious diseases (such as diarrhoea or pneumonia) in non-breastfed children. In addition, the programme includes the supply of milk and cereals necessary for breastfeeding. Beneficiaries 750 patients (mother-child protection, HIV infection, school health). Harambee Contribution 9,000 EURO
